Okay, can I ask you today to take a deep breath and ask yourself: How am I living my life? Okay, life’s complicated … messy sometimes. But in the middle of all that, how are you living your life? Or put another way, what seed are you sowing for your future?

So, imagine, Farmer Brown ploughs his field and sows corn seed at the right time. The weather works in his favour, all’s good, so he heads off to do other things, forgetting altogether what seed he sowed in his field.

As the little green shoots come up through the dirt, he suspects something’s wrong. “Didn’t I sow wheat into that field?” But as the days go by, his expectations of wheat are met with disappointment when the corn crop starts happening.

I know … perhaps that sounds a bit silly. Surely no one would be that stupid! Well, yeah – except you look around at how people are living their lives – many of them simply to satisfy their own selfish desires – and yet, at the end of it they’re expecting a harvest of eternal life that frankly, ain’t coming their way.

Galatians 6:8 If you live to satisfy your sinful self, the harvest you will get from that will be eternal death. But if you live to please the Spirit, your harvest from the Spirit will be eternal life.

Friend, pleasing God, obeying Him, walking in His Spirit, believing in Jesus and living as though you actually believe in Jesus … that’s the path to eternal life. That’s the way you’ll reap the harvest you’re hoping for. But if you live to satisfy your sinful self, the harvest you’ll get from that will be eternal death.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
