The most common reason that people give for praying way less than they know they should is that they’re too busy – too busy to pray. But what if we have that the wrong way round? What if, actually, we’re too busy not to pray?!

I’m sure that you, like most of us, have more than enough stuff to do in your life. Work, home, rest … faces buried in our smartphone screens. It’s a pretty cluttered old world we live in.

Imagine then if you were a celebrity with the media in your face, the crowds following after you … like Jesus. Yes, He had rockstar status in His day. Whole cities would close down when He came to town. Jesus certainly had His hands full.

One day He’d been to the synagogue, then went home to Peter’s place and healed his mother-in-law, and that night after sundown He continued to heal and cast out demons until well into the night. And yet, we’re told that …

Mark 1:35 The next morning Jesus woke up very early. He left the house while it was still dark and went to a place where he could be alone and pray.

Let’s just stop and think about that for a minute. Jesus, the Son of God – God the Son – when He took on flesh and blood, made it His first priority after a long hard day of ministry, early the next morning while it was still dark, to pray.

Now, I love doing things for God. But I wonder whether in this busy, cluttered world in which we live, God isn’t looking for people who’ll make time with Him their first priority.

The next morning Jesus woke up very early. He left the house while it was still dark and went to a place where he could be alone and pray.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
