The one prayer I have for you and the countless others who will join us in this Fresh message today is this; that as we approach Christmas, our hearts will be ready to receive; open to receive; longing to receive.

With just a few days remaining until the big day, how do you plan on approaching Christmas? Is it all rush, rush, rush – finish things off at work, buy those last few presents and the food and … then collapse into Christmas day? Is that the plan?

If it is, and I don’t want to appear judgemental here – that’s the last thing that this is about – but if that’s your plan, I think it’s really sad because when you get to Christmas exhausted, it feels hollow and empty.

Now think about this … God spent an eternity planning Christmas; an absolute eternity. It was a plan so simple, yet so profound. And around seven hundred years before the plan was due to be birthed into the world, He gave us a bit of a glimpse into what it was all about:

Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. (NKJV)

Okay, we all know about Mary’s claim that she was a virgin which truly made God Jesus’ Father, both in a spiritual and a physical sense.

But the key to the plan that was going to spring forth is in the word Immanuel. It means “God is with us”. This plan was for God to enter the world as a man … Jesus.

And that’s why, for me, the idea of doing Christmas exhausted is such a tragedy. Christmas is God showing up on your front doorstep. That’s what we’re celebrating.

So do yourself a favour. Get ready. Christ is coming.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
