There are many things that happen in our lives that we find unsettling. And, on occasion, there are some things that happen in our lives that we find downright scary. Then what?

I was accosted recently by a man in the street who’d left his dog wandering off its lead. Now, where I live, that’s against the law. So, me being me, I had to say something – even though really, I should have zipped my lip.

Well, he erupted. A great deal taller, younger and stronger than me, he accosted me in the most aggressive way. He didn’t lay a hand on me, but it was touch-and-go. I can tell you, my adrenaline was pumping.

Now in those adrenaline-filled moments, whether like me you’ve perhaps brought them upon yourself, or whether they’re completely outside your control, how do you react? Adrenaline creates that fight or flight response, so in those moments, we can make rash decisions with serious ramifications.

Fortunately for me, in that moment, the Holy Spirit showed up. Be still. The fear subsided. And here’s the truth …

Psalm 27:1 LORD, you are my Light and my Saviour, so why should I be afraid of anyone? The LORD is where my life is safe, so I will be afraid of no one!

You and I, we’re not always going to get it all right. We are going to say things and do things that we regret. That’s no surprise to God. But He sees our heart. He knows you … and believe you me, He is there to protect you even if it means, as it did with me, His Spirit telling you to zip your lip.

Where the Lord is there my life is safe, so I will be afraid of no one.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
